Poetry Friday -- Cold

Confronting Icy Water is Directly Linked to Revolution

Standing at the edge,
I brace myself for the harsh truth,
the cold shock that awaits.

My commitment pushes me
to dive deep, invisibilizing below the surface,
rewriting the liberation of my body.

  2. Oooh, "invisibilizing"! Neat word. And isn't it an amazing feeling to dive into water? It truly does rewrite your body image for those seconds beneath the surface.
Hope you get around to some of the poems today with your "ferocious women do not exaggerate" line in them!

  13. There is that 'shock', and now we're experiencing it every day. I guess we've all jumped into cold before, and know that there is hope after a while, right?

  14. Wow! I think we are experiencing that harsh truth and cold shock. I hope it is enough to wake enough of us to take action as we reinvent ourselves.

  16. For me, it's the first line that holds all the power. My 4 year old just looked at the picture and said, Wow! There are sharks under there! Indeed.

  19. Kapow. The long title, the visceral energy, the surprising long disappearing word--perfect. #revolt

  22. Chiming in late, Mary Lee. This poem makes a good companion to the high-dive article we worked with yesterday. I love the last two lines.
