Ways I'm Staying Sane

1. Schedule
After 3 hours of school work, I take a break for Creative Time (write, sketch, paint, bake), a non-working half-hour lunch, and a half-hour for chores around the house. After 2 more hours of school work, I break for an hour of reading and an hour outdoors.

2. Exercise
Every morning I exercise (strength and stretching or strength and walking). Every time I get up out of my chair, I also go up and down the basement stairs three times.

3. Chocolate
One piece every morning -- Ghirardelli, Lindt, Dove, or Whole Foods' 365 Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Minis.

Moderation, pacing, and patience.

  1. I'm trying to figure out a schedule that will work for me. When you say schoolwork, are you doing online learning?

  2. I made my schedule (in #1) work for exactly one day. Today it blew up when my math activity didn't work right, and we worked to contact families who need/might need loaner devices. Today it was school work from 8:00-4:00 with lunch on the fly. Kind of like a usual day, except in front of a screen instead of small humans.

  3. We are flailing about here in the early days of remote learning, uncertain exactly how to do this. Our whole team feels a bit at sea--like we should be doing more. Kids have a general guideline and our initial instruction was to emphasize practice, not introduce new content. (I suspect our guidelines will change when our timeline for reopening does--which seems inevitable at this point.) So we set things up and sent it out. Today I had a few hours of meetings, but not much else. Now we're just wondering how it's all going....are you using a particular platform to reach kids daily? Good luck with your schedule.

    1. Flailing is a great word for this. I toss out assignments via a google doc I send in an email to kids and parents and which is linked on google classroom. Then I wait and watch as responses and assignments flow back in. I HATE not really being part of the learning. But there have been some bright spots. Walking a student through changing the permissions on an audio file so we could hear her audio clip in our class slide show. She was so determined to make it work! So joyful when she got it fixed!
