It's great to see people making the connections between their literacy workshops and math workshops!Kassiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11352708243584476994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20429083.post-36709242160120852342012-07-28T12:03:53.337-04:002012-07-28T12:03:53.337-04:00This is a delightful post! As I ready myself for my Reading Workshop experience, I can't help but wonder what I can do to encourage the kind of personal reading in the workshop model and try it out in math! I'm thrilled to have this resource for math. Now, I just have to buy it. So many books, such little time!Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18127634147011277462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20429083.post-38604226833133804202012-07-24T13:26:17.368-04:002012-07-24T13:26:17.368-04:00I am always looking for new math professional reso...I am always looking for new math professional resources since math is my least favorite subject to teach. Teaching reading and writing all day would be a dream come true for me!
Are there any other math resources you recommend for 5th grade range? I really want to work on strengthening my math instruction and try to get a little excited about it :)Melanie Swider Wenz https://www.blogger.com/profile/03902857713229423500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20429083.post-49547153084977035132012-07-24T10:18:16.763-04:002012-07-24T10:18:16.763-04:00As a fifth grade teacher, I think about my math cl...As a fifth grade teacher, I think about my math class and many of your quote really hit home with me. Purposeful and effective planning does not begin by focusing on what a student does not know. p.63 I really need to focus on this because often in math it is structured what is the next skill? She gave me the push I needed to commit to a math workshop. The timing was perfect as we were transitioning out of our use of Everyday Math. This book really helped to change the dialogue in our math learning. I tried to look at the students as mathematicians and talk in this way.

Loved it! Thanks for sharing your thinking from the book. I am excited to have you back in a classroom. I know I will learn a lot just from stopping by to read your thoughts.

CathyCathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08233792477358685156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20429083.post-86295575113936121442012-07-24T08:27:11.629-04:002012-07-24T08:27:11.629-04:00I just finished this book on Sunday and will be po...I just finished this book on Sunday and will be posting about it in the next couple of days. I don't foresee teaching math anytime in the near future (and possibly never again in my career) so I read it more as a fascination of what math workshop is like, as well as for ideas for my girls. I also really loved Kassia's voice.Amanda Villagómezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02119297811490732509noreply@blogger.com
