ReplyDelete"Contentment"
Contentment,
says Paul,
should lie
not in circumstances
in having plenty
or being in want
in being coupled
with another
who knows your soul
or being
completely
alone
in having children
who listen to their mother
attend college
make wise choices
or those who do not
in having a dishwasher
microwave
lawn mower
that works
or one that doesn't
instead
contentment
comes
from staying focused
and being grateful
for the fixed point
in an always turning
and often
upside down
universe.

Contentment is a rare emotion in a world of hustle and bustle but you captured it, Carol.
DeleteOh yes. We think we're happy until we're not. I took a few more words with Just a Glimpse
ReplyDeletePerfectly summed up, and a great match of poem and image!
ReplyDeleteOne summer I had swallowtails on my parsley. They ate it all! I put them in an aquarium and watched the amazing process. Magical.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo and excellent poem. You said so much in so few words. Fantastic. Life is everywhere, isn't it, Mary?
ReplyDeleteMary Lee, your poem and photo inspired me to feel a sense of contentment in my hectic day. I am in awe of how you captured the emotion.
