I'm tickled pink and proud as punch! I also can't wait to dig into the book and read all the poems...but the boxes of books for the Charlotte Huck Award keep coming and coming, so my reading life will not be my own until after NCTE! I'll try to make it around to the roundup this week, but I can't make any promises. :-(

Speaking of the roundup, Tabatha is hosting at The Opposite of Indifference.

  2. Love all the recipe words that simmer in your derby poem...and aviatrixes! Who knew that was a word? Not me. Congrats on bringing two new poems to the world!

  3. "Ideas steeped in August heat". I had one grandfather who told of being in a derby. He was so proud. As you should be too with a poem in this new anthology. Congrats, Mary Lee. And Happy Reading!

  4. Love both of these Mary Lee and congratulations on being included in this beautiful book. It might be just me, but I couldn't click on the second poem to enlarge it - I got around this by increasing the size of the page.

  5. Congratulations my friend, on this well-deserved honor! Our fourth grade is doing a unit on Civil Rights. I will share Bess and Amelia with them today! And, of course, buy the book to get autographed by my friend, the famous poet, the next time I see you!
