Poetry Friday -- Daylight Savings Time
Daylight Savings Time
Comes Early This Year
This is so wrong...
and so beautiful.
I am sitting here at my
east-facing
window-facing
desk
watching a big ball of orange emerge
from behind skeletal trees into a pink-and-purple sky.
I am at work
watching the sun rise.
I am momentarily blinded
by a flash of grace
before the day races away from me.
Round up today is at jama rattigan's alphabet soup. She's celebrating Bob Dylan and asked us to share our favorite Dylan lyrics. I'm not a Dylan fan. I did, however, read a book this week in which the main character is a Dylan fan (Naked Bunyip Dancing by Steven Herrick). That's the best I can do. Especially when it's the week Daylight Savings Time shifts my universe.

I'm still waiting for the sun to come up. How lucky to have an East-facing window-facing desk. No wonder you are inspired.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem! Thanks for capturing the moment.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, Mary Lee! A beautiful response to the difficult week it's been due to this time change.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and perfect photo to go with it! I'll have to check out that book.
ReplyDeleteNice photo and poem!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Dylan fan either, but my favorite radio station plays him all the time. I have to switch stations when it does.
I think it's something about it coming three weeks earlier... just can't adjust over here.
ReplyDeleteExcept that we love the light at dinner time! Yay for playing outside at the end of the day!!
You did a lovely job of expressing the whole boggle in this poem, I must add.
ReplyDeleteOh, NICE.
ReplyDeleteMomentarily blinded by grace.
May we all be so!
I am LOVING your originals on Friday, Mary Lee. And I have to say, daylight savings time WALLOPED us this year. I'm still confused...
ReplyDeleteI love when a moment of grace comes my way. Your words and photo say it all quite beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThanks all, for stopping by! I hate it that I can't usually join the Poetry Friday party until Saturday morning. The curse of the paying job!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I didn't want to put it in the actual post, but I tend to agree with the kids in Naked Bunyip Dancing, who described Dylan this way: "...who sounds like/he swallowed a bag of marbles/and got two stuck up his nose."
Love your last line: before the day races away from me.
ReplyDeleteVisceral and lovely.
I am also not a Dylan fan and agree with those Bunyip kids too. Interesting book, in fact. I'm hoping to post about it soon.
