Moon over Long Island Sound, as seen from Abbotts' Lobster in the Rough in Noank, CT.
Full Moon
by Robert Hayden
No longer throne of a goddess to whom we pray,
no longer the bubble house of childhood's
tumbling Mother Goose man,
The emphatic moon ascends
(the rest of the poem is here)
The round up this week is at Writing and Ruminating. Next week it will be HERE!

Wow! You're fast! I saw the title of your post and hit the panic button. For a minute there I didn't know what day of the week it was!
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, btw. I hope you are enjoying the summer.
I'm sooooo in vacation mode that I thought today was Friday!!! It's a good sign when you lose track, right?
ReplyDeleteYour trip must have been amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love this picture.
Gorgeous picture, Mary Lee! Which came first? The picture or the poem?? Always love your Poetry Friday. Mom
ReplyDeleteOooh, the moon was lovely here last night, but that picture...so gorgeous. Did you take it?
ReplyDeleteOh yes it is a lovely picture and haunting poem. I've been noticing the moon the last few nights too. It's been yellow as an old tooth above my house.
ReplyDeleteYes, Sara, I took the picture in Noank, CT from Abbotts' Lobster in the Rough. My lobster waited at the picnic table while I walked a few yards to the beach of Long Island Sound to take the picture!
ReplyDeleteCloudscome,
"yellow as an old tooth"
That phrase needs a haiku to live in!
Mary Lee,
ReplyDeleteGreat photo--and matched well by your poem selection. Have a great weekend!
An interesting poem. I liked his last stanza. I wasn't expecting it to go there.
