Chalkabration!

Betsy, at Teaching Young Writers, is hosting a Chalkabration on the last day of April, May, June, July and August. Here's my poem:

Here's a close-up of that yellow haze of oak pollen (and some CUTE little oak leaves):

Now multiply the pollen from those three bundles of oak flowers by an entire tree full, in a neighborhood filled with mature oak trees...

...and you'll understand why my red car has a distinct yellow tinge to it!! (AH--CHOO!!)

  1. Yellow clouds, yellow cars, achoo is right! Maybe rain is okay :) Though I would much rather see a yellow cloud of sun rays than pollen. Neat pics and great chalk. Thanks for joining in.

  2. Mary Lee,
You captured the feeling of many of students right now. One of my girls told me she has "flower fever." Looking at her eyes I'd say she is right. We joined the chalkabration today. I hope to have students photos posted tomorrow.

  3. I thought our yellow haze came from my big pine tree-I guess both. We don't have many oaks here. Glad to see you joined our chalkabration, Mary Lee-ah-choo!

  4. Mary Lee,
My nose knows! I have been sneezing, blowing and oh-ing with tissues the last couple of days! Love the rhythm and lightness to the poem!
Thanks for sharing it with us!

Oak pollen is finished sprinkling the sky yellow here in the deep south, but the ligustrums are blooming. That's worse for my nose than anything. My husband reported that all you have to do is take 1-2 teaspoons of local raw honey. You will build up an immunity. Worth a try. I will be checking out this chalkabration.

  7. Just read this aloud to my sixth graders - who can relate to the sneezing involved!
