Poetry Friday -- Ode to My Big Toe

Dear Big Toe,

We've been together since before I was born.
You've helped me balance;
I've taken you for granted.

Now I'll give you the pampering you deserve...
at least until the bandages come off
and we get back to normal.

You gotta love a podiatrist with a sense of humor! Because of a recurring infected ingrown nail, I had an eighth inch strip of toenail removed yesterday, and the doctor "signed" my "cast" with these Spiderman (or alien) eyes.

Here's to healthy toes!

Robyn has the Poetry Friday Roundup at Life on the Deckle Edge. The call for roundup hosts for January for June is here.

  1. OK, so does it mean that I don't have a sense of humor if all I can think about is how much your toe must hurt? Ow, ow, ow! Hope your toe feels better soon!

  4. Nothing worse(well maybe) than some toe pain! Feel and be better soon! But turning it into a poem....love it! How long are you off your feet? And thank goodness for various shoe options!

  5. Thanks for the healing wishes! I think the best thing for it is a day of rest. The big bandage comes off tonight/tomorrow morning. No long walks for awhile, and no swimming for a couple of weeks. This temporary big pain is worth it to keep the recurring pain of the ingrown nail + infection from happening again!

  6. What a superhero toe! My sons have had this done with great results. No more ingrown toenail pain! Hope it's the same for you, Mary Lee.

  8. It's so true that we take our toes (and other things) for granted until they start hurting! Wishing you a speedy recovery, Mary Lee.

  11. Nice eyes! Too bad you will lose them soon. But it will be nice to have your toe back! Wishes for a speedy recovery for Big Piggy (your toe - not you).

  12. While you heal, maybe your swaddled toe can pretend to baby Jesus in a manger? I know it's hard for you to be off your feet, but rest is best!

  15. Glad you've had it done. I know one person who had the problem, the pain goes away rather quickly, & such a relief as you said. Love the poem 'talk'!

  18. Aww, Mary Lee, I can relate. One of my big toes is blackened and purply because of my running. Who says running is pretty? My big toe is proof that it isn't. :( Be well soon! :)

  20. Hope you heal quickly. Here's to healthy toes! (Reminds me of a couple of summers ago, I crashed a door into my toe and had to go to a wedding wearing sandals to accommodate my bauble toe that looked similar to yours. Hope you live in a place where you don't have to jam your digit into tight shoes or boots. Maybe you can tell, I feel your pain.)

  21. Mary Lee, The ode to your toe is wonderful! Your doctor has a great sense of humor, too.

Your toe looks like it should be resting on a little cotton ball pillow : )

    Hope it is healing well.

  22. When you hurt your toe, you realize how much you need it. I'm clumsy, and I hurt mine often, so I know. Hope you feel better already.
