Another row plowed.
Seeds are planted behind me.
So much work ahead.
One more row, then rest.
Free the horse from the harness;
leave the plow ready.

Today I offer a pair of haiku for the Friday that's a week away from Winter Break.
There are still a few openings on the Poetry Friday Roundup Schedule for January through June. Would you like to host?
I love this poem! So perfect. I am definitely looking forward to freeing the horse from the harness for a couple weeks. ;-)
ReplyDelete"leave the plow ready," so much is said in this one line!
ReplyDeleteI imagine this is what it feels like in the classroom this time of year, lots planted but still so much ahead.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these.
Tricia
P.S. - I'll host any day you want to give me!
Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteThis seems so much about teaching in the last days before the break! I too love "leave the plow ready."
ReplyDeleteLove these. Echo what others have said about "leave the plow ready".
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest!
ReplyDeleteThese haiku leave me with such a "zen" feeling, Mary Lee. Everything is just as it should be. I hope you will let me feature you in the Haiku Garden on Today's Little Ditty next year. Yes?
ReplyDeleteI'd be honored to stroll in the Haiku Garden with you!
DeleteYay! I'll be in touch sometime in January to schedule with you. :)
DeleteAfter today in Denver, I would say the harness feels very heavy. Love your metaphor, Mary Lee. Best wishes for a nice week next week!

ReplyDeleteHaving watched some of these huge horses plow, I know they relish the work. It lives deep within their bones. And I also know they love the rubdown and rest that comes after a hard plow. So do we, I guess.
Loved these haiku, Mary Lee. Thank you!
The never ending cycle of planting to harvesting, even in our roles as teachers. Looking forward to a break and time with family.
ReplyDeleteLove the poems AND that photo, Mary Lee. Imagine plowing with horses - wouldn't that feel wonderful? Scary, too, but wow!
ReplyDeleteI like the "seeds are planted behind me" idea. (And I'm definitely relating to the "so much work ahead" feeling right now!) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteA fine photo you found to accompany your poem! There is no faltering when you have your feet that firmly planted on the ground.
ReplyDeleteMary Lee, I love the second haiku - I'm feeling a deep connection to that right now. May your week here go well and I love the thought of leaving the plow ready. We will return.
ReplyDeleteWe have planted so many seeds this year! Here's to a long, restful break! (Hope your toe is better!)
ReplyDeleteI love the sense of patience, persistence, and good work you captured in these plowing poems.
