Confronting Icy Water is Directly Linked to Revolution
Standing at the edge,
I brace myself for the harsh truth,
the cold shock that awaits.
My commitment pushes me
to dive deep, invisibilizing below the surface,
rewriting the liberation of my body.

"invisibilizing"
ReplyDeleteYes to all of this. Love that title too, Mary Lee. Hug. xx
This is awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, "invisibilizing"! Neat word. And isn't it an amazing feeling to dive into water? It truly does rewrite your body image for those seconds beneath the surface.
ReplyDeleteHope you get around to some of the poems today with your "ferocious women do not exaggerate" line in them!
Diving deep to rewrite ourselves. What an image. What a speech. This IS awesome.
ReplyDeleteWow. Terrific analogy. A shock to the system!
ReplyDeleteMary Lee, I am grateful that you set the ball in motion to let all voices soar. Bracing yourself for realities and pushing out from the icy waters with a strong voice mark your new mission.
ReplyDeleteIcy waters indeed! Here's to revolution and "diving deep". And I, too, love your word, "invisibilizing" - brilliant. =)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great title, and I love the short, punchiness of it.
ReplyDelete"the cold shock that awaits" - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes! Fabulous poem. Invisibilizng - wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love how you used the words in this poem. You are such a master in making metaphor that cuts to the core. (In a good way)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a fantastic way to describe this moment in time. And, the graphic....well it just makes me shiver. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a deliciously icy state of affairs poem you've created. "rewriting the liberation of my body" let's do it, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThere is that 'shock', and now we're experiencing it every day. I guess we've all jumped into cold before, and know that there is hope after a while, right?
ReplyDeleteWow! I think we are experiencing that harsh truth and cold shock. I hope it is enough to wake enough of us to take action as we reinvent ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting so tired of confronting icy water. Thanks for reminding me not to give up.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's the first line that holds all the power. My 4 year old just looked at the picture and said, Wow! There are sharks under there! Indeed.
ReplyDelete"rewriting the liberation of my body" - no that's a line to linger on. Thank you, Mary Lee, for diving, and for writing. xo
ReplyDelete"hard truths, and cold shocks" Great words, Mary Lee!
ReplyDeleteKapow. The long title, the visceral energy, the surprising long disappearing word--perfect. #revolt
ReplyDelete(Also, you look great in a bikini :)
Day after day, the cold shock keeps getting more and more frigid!
ReplyDeleteA shock to the system, indeed!
ReplyDeleteChiming in late, Mary Lee. This poem makes a good companion to the high-dive article we worked with yesterday. I love the last two lines.
