Poetry Friday -- More

The More You Love

The more you love,
the harder you work.

The harder you work,
the more you accomplish.

The more you accomplish,
the greater the expectations.

The greater the expectations,
the more epic the fail.

The more you fail,
the harder you work.

The harder you work,
the more you love.

(I think this poem might work as a reverso!)

It's the end of the first full week of school, and these first eight days have been filled with love, hard work, and a little bit of fail (not epic...not just yet). Good thing there's always a tomorrow and a next week. We pick ourselves up and try again!

  1. This is brilliant, Mary Lee - and I know there will be lots more of all of the above as the year rolls along! (--especially the hard work, love, and accomplishments!)

  3. It does work as a reverso, Mary Lee, and thoughts of that make me know what an up and down week that first week always is. I do love that 'pick ourselves up and try again'.

  4. There's nothing to compare to the bone weary feeling of the first few weeks. So glad there are folks like you in the trenches loving and working. Hang in there!

  6. I also like the flow of your poem, the circular nature of it and the positive attitude--Embracing "failure" as something natural and to be approached with fresh energy and determination, not defeat. Thanks for a great perspective!

  9. Your first day/week reflection is filled with the best of your teaching and learning days with a tablespoon of wisdom! I wonder what another week will bring you, Mary Lee. Hard work and more love-"Embrace Hope" as you told me.

  13. It definitely works as a reverso--and has so much wisdom both ways you read it.

  14. I love how the lines stack on top of each other. It does remind me of the feeling I had last week. The new school year brings many new wonderful things. Oh, how they do tend to pile up on that first week back! Hope you have a great school year!
