Summer of 2020
Happiness is morning light
and -- except for birdsong -- silence.
A book to get lost in,
and a cup of tea to begin
a day soaked by rain.
It will not stay
cool, but at least starts
pleasantly, unmarked
by stress and worry
about all that is unsure.
Hold this moment close.
Capture this fragment of hope.

Hope is so important!
ReplyDeleteThe lines which strike me most are "at least starts pleasantly, unmarked" and "capturing this fragment of hope ... from the books to get lost in and the coolness as refuge, how well you encapsulate the summer of 2020, Mary Lee!

I want to stay in this poem and in this moment. What a beautiful bubble of peace. You have captured hope.
ReplyDeleteI need that "fragment of hope." Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThose "fragments of hope" feel more and more elusive, lately. Thank you for reminding me to find and hold onto them.
ReplyDeleteThis captures how I love to start the day. A cup of iced tea, sitting on my porch, and a 5-10-minute meditation. Wonderful...
ReplyDeletePerfect time of day, a time to think and experience the silence. I love the mornings. Thanks for sharing yours.
ReplyDeleteI treasure these small routines we have carved out during the lockdown. I feel like your poem reached me at exactly the right time. It rained tonight and I'm having tea while I listen to the frogs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to be grateful for the small things that bring hope and happiness to our daily life. It's so easy to lose sight of them amidst the bigger worries these days. As a morning person, I especially love that first line. Maybe it's time for some happiness haiku?
ReplyDelete"Hold this moment close.
ReplyDeleteCapture this fragment of hope."
Wonderful words for our current reality. Thanks for this celebration of happiness, much appreciated.
Mary Lee, I needed to read your lovely poem and remember that hope is still in the air. I am going to capture this for my Embraceable Summer Gallery collection because it is a memorable one. Many thanks for the positivity this morning.
ReplyDeleteHolding on to your "fragment of hope," bird songs (give me breath) and comforting cup o'tea… Thanks Mary Lee for making chaos wash away!
ReplyDeleteMary Lee...
ReplyDeleteIt will not stay
cool, but at least starts
pleasantly--
These lines carry the bittergorgeous of this time. Thanks, and thanks for being literally the single person to appreciate my wee July 19 video that took me 2 hours the figure out and then film. 😦🤗
Such a peaceful poem. It's hard for me to cherish these quiet times and hold onto moments of hope right now.
ReplyDelete"unmarked by stress and worry...unsure...fragments of hope" -- relate to these words during this time. You capture the moment.
