Summer Reading Plans for Kids

Last year, there was big talk on the blogs about summer reading. I just wrote an article for Choice Literacy about the things I do with my class to help my kids think about and plan their summer reading. It is here if you'd like to read it.

I thought that it was a great article, Franki! Thanks for sharing it. I think it's must-reading for anyone who wants to encourage kids to read this summer.

This is really great, Franki! I was just talking about summer reading with two other moms today and I am sending them the link. It's so well put, detailed AND relaxed...

  5. Thanks--
I played with a summer writing plan but haven't ever tried it. I'd love to see yours if you design one:-)

  8. Did a summer writer's notebook last year... was quite successful. However, it requires a lot of parental support.

  11. This entry and article led me to a discussion with my fourth and fifth graders on their summer reading plans. When we talked about what makes summer reading hard they let me know they didn't know how to use the public library system well. So, we have a last minute field trip scheduled to the local library and several of them brought back applications for their very first library card! Thanks for the nudge!
