What about Miss Tizzy from Miss Tizzy by Libba Moore Gray? Her home and yard are her classroom and the neighborhood children are her students. As a kindergarten teacher, I am reminded about what really matters when teaching young children when I read this book to my class. The joy and love Miss Tizzy shares with the children is returned to her in the end. Isn't this ultimately what we want young children to learn.....how to love and care for others and share the gifts and talents they have? I love Miss Tizzy!
ReplyDeleteRosalyn, from The Wonder of Charlie Anne by Kimberly Newton Fusco. She moves to a small town that hasn't had a school for a year, ignores racial prejudice by townspeople who think her African American daughter, Phoebe, should not be allowed to attend or teach at the school, and works with Charlie Anne, who has had a really traumatic experience learning to read. She definitely belongs on the list!
ReplyDeleteMiss Tizzy sounds perfect. And I read The Wonder of Charlie Anne...why didn't I think of Rosalyn! She's perfect, too!
