Keep Your Promises

Make your life a masterpiece. Imagine no limitations on what you can be, have, or do.  ~Brian Tracy

Keep Your Promises

I accept your challenge. I will make
a poem using each of your
quotes. A snapshot of your life
in fifth grade, the collection will not be
masterpiece
and I imagine
no
one will appreciate the poems as much as you. The limitations
I have put on
myself with these poems will show you that what
you
challenge yourself to do can
be
done. You have
to keep your promises. There is no either/or
do what you said you would do.

  1. So excited to follow the fun you'll be creating this month. I'm in awe of this form and may just have to try a golden shovel poem of my own.

  2. It's a wonder of a challenge from that "Hahn squad", Mary Lee. I love this beginning poem, the voice direct to your students, and will look forward not only to your golden shovel poems, but the quotes chosen! Hurrah for poetry month!

  3. And you are off! I imagine your students reaching high school or college, and getting out this poem, and reading that last line, and pushing themselves to do great and amazing things. Can't wait to read some more of these!

  4. Mary Lee, first of all this is a wonderful poem. I haven't tried a shovel poem yet. The form seems challenging, and I have yet to determine the best way to go about it. You've managed to choose each word carefully, place each line break perfectly. I look forward to your poems across the month as you meet the challenge set by your squad. Happy Poetry Month.

  8. I agree with Diane. I have read several of these gems. You are creating something so meaningful, beautiful and are such a role model to your wonderful students. Where are they finding these terrific quotes? I should read back to discover. Wow. Just wow!! Janet Clare F.

  9. Oh my goodness, I've been out of the blogging/writing game and am easing back in. Life threw me some twists and turns. I can't imagine a better way to come back than following this journey. You are a gift to our profession and those precious children this month.
