What do potato chips know?
You can't resist us.
There's power in crispness.
Grease is delicious.
What do potato chips know?
Our stay is brief.
Life needs treats.
Occasionally, salty conquers sweet.

This is my first attempt at a Deeper Wisdom poem, a challenge given by Joyce Sidman. I'm trying to write a more serious one. Really, I am. But this will have to do for now.
Tara has the Poetry Friday Roundup at A Teaching Life.
Love the rhyming words in stanza 1. Resist us and delicious -- perfect!

ReplyDeleteHa ha, Mary Lee - oh, you're a salty one. And clever. Thanks for some crunch to start the day.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Mary Lee! "Life needs treats." You're making me hungry!
ReplyDeleteHah! Love this! "Our stay is brief." :D Thanks for the salty chuckle, Mary Lee!
ReplyDeletePerfect, Mary Lee! Just the right crunch to this. :)
ReplyDeleteHate to be nitpicky, but although the intent may be the same, it's actually called a Deeper Wisdom poem, not a Higher Power poem. Also, since you didn't send this to me directly, I just want to make sure I have your permission to post on TLD...?
Tee-Hee! Funny how the brain works! Noted and edited. And yes, you have permission!
DeleteOh, these vowels are tasty! And it's so true - even with my sweet tooth, sometimes salty wins. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteI started a diet and these are not on it. I miss them terribly. Love the salty conquers sweet!
ReplyDeleteHa! It's an ode to potato chips. :) Love it. Have you tried those chocolate covered Lays? Sweet AND salty. Yummmm. xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wisdom, Mary Lee. The potato chip companies would rejoice.
ReplyDeletePotato chips are my weakness. I never buy them, because I'm so weak. This poem speaks to me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIS there really ANY "Deeper Wisdom" than that?! You nailed it, Mary Lee!
ReplyDelete"Life needs treats" -- yes! Love having a light-hearted bit of deeper wisdom.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, everyone!

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, Mary Lee. I'm hungry now!
ReplyDeleteI love all the i sounds in the first stanza and the ee sounds in the second. This is fun to read aloud!
ReplyDeleteThat is a mouth-watering poem, and I adore the wisdom of "salty conquers sweet"
ReplyDeleteLove this ... and you!
ReplyDeleteLove this - and pretty sure the chips know all this and more. They hide in my pantry, calling and laughing at me when I say I can resist.
ReplyDeletePerfect! Wisdom at its crunchiest.
ReplyDeleteMary Lee, I agree with Kerri's witty statement. The poem was "tasteful"-especially the lines, "You can't resist us.
ReplyDeleteThere's power in crispness." Deeper Wisdom, indeed!
Wow - the potato chip really knows the key to my heart! Can't stop at just one... =)
ReplyDelete"There's power is crispness." :)
