Poetry Friday

periodically
the carousel slows and stops
blur refocuses

I've been away from Poetry Friday for too long. It's good to be back, to have time to visit the roundup, which is hosted this week by Carol at Carol's Corner. Hard to believe that the year is winding down -- next week we'll start building the roundup schedule for January-June 2016!

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving! Happy Poetry! Happy Friday!

  1. Welcome back! I'm thinking this is the carousel in Burlington, right? It's beautiful!

  2. Dear friend, my whirly ride with you last weekend was the best part, and I'm grateful indeed for this moment to refocus. In Part 2 of my recap you will have your very own paragraph!

  3. Umm... Carousels. I haven't seen one in awhile. Thanks for movement, sound and your haiku that taps into my brain.

  4. I'm enjoying the slow down for now, however brief though it may be.

  5. Nice to see you back! And about that carousel...when did they decide that the animals shouldn't go up and down any more? I hate carousels now, so it shouldn't matter to me, but they used to go up and down! When I was a child I loved choosing which horse I was going to ride.

  6. Love your haiku and the accompanying video. Nice to have the slow times, however brief they may be. Enjoy your long weekend!

  7. We've made the trip to that carousel more than once through the years. Nice to share a thought about them, but it's a little sad that it's an analogy of our lives sometimes (or often?). "Blur refocuses" is great.

  8. Great to see you last weekend, passing like two horses on the carousel. With a house full, I am still finding these early morning hours belong to me alone. The world refocuses momentarily.

  9. Selfishly, can't think of another Haiku I'd rather enjoy this Thanksgiving weekend. Thank you for returning to PF, bringing with you the happy sounds and sights of childhood... I've begun collecting/displaying carousel horse figurines these last few years--ever since an opening-day faculty mtg. when I responded to the question of which animal I would be & why by surprising myself saying "a carousel horse." I keep promising myself I will flesh out the very brief reason I offered that day..As soon as I figure out what the fleshed-out reason is...In that vein, I think your Haiku gives me something to think about. God bless you! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  10. Carousels are wildly popular. Two years back I pinned an article about the then new Greenway Carousel in Boston. It's been repinned 488 times! The carousel animals are all native to MA. Here's the article if you want to take a look.

  12. Love this idea of slowing to a stop to refocus - even if briefly. And so happy you could stop this week to post for PF! Thanks in advance for rounding up the Rounder-Uppers.

  13. I love this light-hearted post! I was distracted from the poetry as I tried to pick out which beast I'd want to ride, if I were little(r). Did I see camels? It truly is a blur and a refocus.

  14. My life feels like a carousal ride at the moment, looking forward to it slowing to a stop so my blur can refocus. Thanks for your itty bitty poetic wisdom, Mary Lee. =)
