Blog Post of the Day, Comments, Crud

How fun is this -- we are one of the Children's Literature Blog Posts of the Day on the Children's Writing Web Journal of the Children's Book Insider! We got noticed!

But really, it didn't take being in a YouTube video to clue us in that we've been noticed. We could tell by all the comments you've been leaving!

Hasn't the 21 Day Comment Challenge been a blast? I started a day late, but I've had a few over-achieving days that have brought my average up to just over 5 comments per day. I have been using a combination of my GoogleReader, the links in our sidebar that aren't on my reader page, and random links I've picked up from your sidebars!

The best thing about the Comment Challenge is that I can chat away without having to use up the last scraps of my voice.

Yes, it wouldn't be mid-November, it wouldn't be time for NCTE, if I didn't get an upper respiratory infection. I have been keeping a 10-year diary for 8 years now, and 5 out of the past 8 years I have lost my voice just about this time of year (in '01 on the 9th, in '03 on the 4th, in '05 on the 9th, in '07 on the 6th, and this year it will be the 13th, if things keep going the way they are right now.)

In '06 at about this time, the numbness in my feet was creeping up my legs and I wound up having emergency back surgery right after NCTE. I'd rather lose my voice than have the pain and numbness and fear I had that year.

  1. Woohoo! Congrats you superstars! I am loving the comment challenge as well. It's been a bit depressing to write lengthy book reviews and book lists and have no one take notice. The wealth of comments in the last week has been a welcome pat on the back!

  2. @Mary Lee--Oh, that is so cool. That so totally rocks the awesome levels are getting dangerously high!

@tricia--We're taking notice! At least I know I'm taking notice! I just don't always comment (but maybe I'm getting into the habit...)

  3. That is very exciting and fun. But what I really want to say is, I LOVE YOUR 10 YEAR JOURNAL! I have been wanting one since I first heard you talk about it last year around Christmas. I will ask Santa for it again this year.

  4. Mary Lee, I hope that your voice comes back quickly this time. And yes, the comment challenge is a lot of fun. As Tricia said, it's nice to know that people actually notice when we put blog posts out there. And you all deserve plenty of attention.

  5. Congrats!! We love a Year of Reading. Hope that voice comes back soon.

I'm so impressed that you've been able to keep up with the Blog Comment Challenge! I really really wanted to, but I keep losing whole days when I forget to check in with blogs and i haven't been able to catch up.

I saw this Children's Web Journal this morning for the first time and thought it very interesting. I hope your voice comes back in time for the flight! I hope to run into you at NCTE.

  8. Ohhhh!! my columbus bloggers!!! you Rock!!!! WAY TO GO! I heart A year of Reading as well!!!

  9. First of all, congrats on the notice!

Second, I'm so sorry about your "crud" -- I was out of school for one day this week. Horrible cold, that is still lingering.

Hope you're better soon, so you can enjoy next weekend!
