POMEGRANATE

I was so very ready
to leave it all behind.

A red-rinded pomegranate waits
on the kitchen counter:

insurance that I will
return.

  2. Mary Lee, I love your subtle hint of the Demeter & Persephone myth.

    1. I was thinking the same thing, but couldn't remember the exact myth. I also just love the way the word pomegranate sounds.

  3. I was thinking the same thing as Laura...as well as the legend of Orion's wife. (Some early Christians believed it was the 'forbidden fruit,' as well...so the pomegranate has quite a storied past!)

  6. I enjoy how you say so much with so few words. Thank you for this delight.

  7. Pomegranate, insurance....who would think you could use both of those words so well in the same poem?

  8. That's quite a photo! And the poem reminds me a little of Marie Ponsot - much said, few words. Thanks, Mary Lee.

  12. Dear Franki and Mary Lee,
    I though that you might be interested in one of our upcoming exhibits here at the UPCOUNTRY HISTORY MUSEUM. We will be hosting a JAN BRETT exhibit from February 8th thru April 27th and offering education programs for K5-2nd grades. Are you a fan of her work?
