Fifth Grade Lessons
Fifth Grade Lessons
You're
only
eleven
and you're learning
life requires you to
(first and foremost) show up.
Read directions, do your best,
ask for help, give help when you can.
Put one foot in front of the other.
Never take "ordinary" for granted.

I'm still working on taking the ordinary for granted! Love the work we get to do.
ReplyDeleteI'm exchanging poems with Ingrid, in 5th grade & just turned 11. I'll share this one, Mary Lee. Yes, getting ready for middle school seems like all this is important. I'm sad for those who struggle to 'show up'.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to share this with my sixth graders today. I've thought a lot in the last couple of weeks how much we are asking of them, just in terms of organization, work ethic, self-regulation, etc. And remarkably, they are, for the most part, rising to the occasion!
ReplyDeleteLove the last line ... I've been reading your poems in my RSS readers and then never make my way over here to comment, so I just wanted to leave a note of thanks, for the poems that pepper my feed.
ReplyDelete:)
